Where shall we create a community garden in Sutton North?

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 5 September, 2017

The Mayor of London has announced funding for more tree planting and creating greener spaces in London.

The Mayor wants to make London the first National Park City with a target of making 50 per cent of the city green by 2050. To do this, we want to plant more trees, restore our rivers, create natural play-spaces for children and green routes to encourage walking and cycling.

The first commitment towards this is the Greener City Fund, a grant programme to support boroughs, local communities and environmental organisations to plant more trees and improve our green spaces.

Applications are now open so we want to hear about your ideas!

Grants available

The grants now open are:

Community Tree Planting Grants – round one

Want to plant a community orchard, or more trees in your local park? We’re looking for projects across London which  will involve community groups in planting thousands of trees and help improve children’s access to nature.

Applications for Community Tree Planting grants close on 29 September 2017. Projects should take place from November 2017 to February 2018.

Community Green Spaces Grants – round one

Is there a bare patch of grass near you which could be transformed into a community garden? Or a paved area which could be turned into somewhere to play? We’re looking for projects which will green the grey and bring nature into the city. These grants aim to improve and increase green space across London and help local people to have their say on the design and creation of new spaces.

Applications for Community Green Space grants close on 20 October 2017. Projects should take place from January – December 2018.

Contact Ruth, Marlene or Steve if you have some ideas.
