Council consults on parking issues in your road

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 19 November, 2018

Many residents have been telling us about the growing parking problems in the area due to St Helier Hospital, school and commuter parking and people visiting the town centre.  The Council consulted residents about the problems late last year and have now analysed the 5,500 replies received.  Based on those responses, Council officers have prepared street-by-street proposals, and the Council is now consulting on these.

Residents living near the town centre expressed support for an extension of the town centre CPZ. So the Council is proposing an extension with residents’ permits into Stayton, Dibdin, Marlborough, Blenheim, Hallmead and Vermont Roads.

People living around Aultone Way also expressed support for a Residents’ parking zone. So the Council is proposing a CPZ with residents’ permits for Aultone Way, Greenhill, Woodend, and the closes off these roads.  They are also proposing Free parking bays with one hour yellow line restrictions in all the roads to the east of Rose Hill.  The intention is for this to reduce the impact of all-day parking from the school and the hospital.

Residents living around Collingwood Road also showed support for a Residents’ parking zone. So the Council is proposing a CPZ with residents’ permits for Collingwood Road, Alexandra Ave and Chaucer Gardens.

The proposals will be discussed at a Special Parking Meeting of the Local Committee on 26 November at 7.30pm at the Salvation Army, Benhill Ave.  The detailed plans are available online here and at Sutton library, where written comments can be made.

Your Lib Dem Council wants to address the problems that many have raised over the years.  But it all depends on whether the proposals get your support.  So look out for the consultation letter from the Council in mid November, and make you sure you tell the Council your views.

If you have a neighbour who has not heard of these proposals, please forward this post to them and invite them to sign up to our email updates here.

WE DO NOT NEED ANY PARKING RESTRICTIONS
WE HAVE LIVED IN GREENHILL SINCE 1972 AND HAVE SEEN THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE AND THE NUMBER OF CARS LITERALLY QUADRUPLE—
WHAT WE NEED IS MORE PARKING NOT LESS PARKING

    Notice to fellow residents
Councillor Ruth Dombey stated publicly that if the majority of residents at Greenhill objected to the Traffic Management Order via the correct objections procedure in July 2019 then Greenhill would not get the Traffic Management Order in its present form— ie without the amendments
Although the majority of residents did object via the correct objections procedure —the promise made by Councillor Dombey was not fulfilled
ie the Council having confirmed receipt —disregarded the objections–plus amendments— as put forward by the majority of residents at Greenhill–

Notice to fellow residents at Greenhill
    Covid 19 pandemic
    Health and safety
    Extra precautions
    Sutton Garden Suburb Residents’ Association
Regarding the dog walkers at and near Greenhill
Most dog walkers do have their dogs on a lead and do pick up their dogs’ excrement and put in a bag
However there are a number of dog walkers frequently —-at and near Greenhill —-who do not
Fellow residents are reminded that it is an offence for dog walkers not to pick up and bag their dogs’ excrement
Fellow residents are therefore urged to provide photographic evidence to the Council and Police
