Local councillors call on planning inspector to refuse appeal for school on Rosehill Park

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 11 January, 2020

Ruth, Marlene and Steve have written to the Planning Inspector asking for the appeal for the new school to be turned down.

Although accepting the case for a new school in Sutton, the councillors are concerned that the current proposals, for a four-storey block on the All-Weather pitch does not provide an inspirational school that will add value to the park.  For a school of this size, in a key parkland location, needs to be of the highest architectural quality and of exceptional design.

The Councillors have also expressed concerns about the Transport Assessment accompanying the appeal, which they feel makes unrealistic assumptions and exposes risks on road safety and parking.  They are concerned with the impact of pupils and traffic in Rose Hill, in conjunction with those from Greenshaw.   They are also concerned about the impact on parking in the public car park in the park, and in neighbouring residential roads.   The full text of the Councillors’ submission is here.

The Planning Inspector will hold a local inquiry, in public, before coming to a decision on the appeal.  The inquiry will start at 10am on Weds 18 March at the Holiday Inn and will last for several days.  We will post more information on this as it becomes available.

Please do not put a school on the old all weather pitch too small an area
Traffic at a standstill most mornings now let alone another school being built
We already have 2 huge secondary schools within 3 miles of each other and many primary schools putting another school in the same area is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard of
