Sutton Local Committee to meet on 25 February at 7pm

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 14 February, 2021

Local Committees have resumed their business virtually, using an internet link.  Local Councillors and community representatives are able to meet via the internet to discuss important local issues.  The agenda and papers are here.  Residents will be able to view the meeting using the link on the agenda page, when it is available.

On the agenda we have some important topics:

COVID-19 Public Health Message

Dr Imran Choudhury, Sutton’s Director of Public Health, and Nadine Wyatt, NHS South West London Clinical Commissioning Group, will give an update on the COVID-19 situation in the area and the excellent work that Sutton Health Champions have done in response.

Sutton’s Sustainable Transport Strategy

This important public consultation started in January 2021.  Residents are encouraged to take part and have their say on its future direction.  The strategy focuses on providing more opportunities for everyone to walk, cycle and use public transport as their preferred options for journeys, within and beyond the borough.

Climate emergency

An update will be provided to the Local Committee on the Climate Emergency following feedback provided by the committee in 2020.

Spotlight on our Community Groups

This time the spotlight will be on the relaunch of local friends groups, Friends of Rosehill Parks and Friends of Sutton Green, and the great work they are doing in the community.

Public Realm Projects and Neighbourhood Grants

Paul Brockwell, our Locality Lead Officer will report back on the Public Realm budget, introduce new schemes for consideration by the committee and remind committee members of the opportunities for new Neighbourhood Grants.

The Committee will be asked to fund improvements in Rosehill Park, including including a Social Orchard, a Picnic Table, an information board and a water bowser for tree maintenance.

Paul will also be reporting on recently completed schemes, including the community noticeboard on Sutton Green, and replacement street trees.

After the meeting you will be able to watch the meeting using the link given on the agenda page.

Any residents who have submitted a question (up to five days ahead) will be invited to join the meeting to ask a supplementary question.

Sutton Local Committee has a tradition of allowing a free flow of debate with residents at its meetings, and we are sorry that, in the current situation, this is not possible to arrange with on-line meetings.

The next meeting of the local committee will take place on 27 May 2021.

Ruth, Marlene and Steve.
