Residents will be aware that the new safety measures in the road are far from addressing the problems of speeding traffic. Following a road safety audit called for by your councillors, some important changes are to be made this week (subject to the weather).
The improvements includes moving many of the Give Way signs closer to the width restrictions, and putting in additional cross hatchings at the side of the road. It is clear that the distance of the Give Way signs causes confusion. These measures should make the width restrictions more visible.
We are still far from happy with the situation, and continue to press for the bollards to be lit, and for a variable speed (Happy Face) indicator sign. Once the new measures are in place, the safety situation will be assessed again.
These measures were designed to slow down traffic and make the road safe for pedestrians. Further background to this scheme is here. We will keep working on this until the Council gets it right.
