On 7 February, the council’s planning committee voted to approve a new 96 pupil SEN school on the site of the disused concrete playing field and tennis courts. The building that has been approved will consist of a part 1 storey, part 2 storey shaped like an L along with 41 parking spaces and a multi-use games area (MUGA).
Concerns were raised by Sam about the existing vehicle entrance into Sutton Sports Village which is already quite narrow and also the proposed construction works entrance further south where the current tennis courts there will be used for holding building materials. Council officers stated that a Section 278 Agreement will be in place to ensure that access will be suitable. Sam also raised the issue of recent flooding in Rosehill Park. Sam also asked questions to the applicant and asked them what changes have been made since the Design Review Panel.
In the end, the need for specialist SEN provision outweighed other factors and permission was granted.
