TfL propose ‘on demand’ bus service pilot for Sutton

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 21 February, 2019

TfL are consulting on a possible pilot ‘on demand’ bus service for Sutton.  Details are here, where you can let them have your views by 20 March.

The trial would be for a 12 month period.  There would be eight 14 seater buses, with low floors, wheelchair accessible, and low emissions.  They would be based at Sutton garage.  The buses would not have a fixed route or schedule, but ‘respond’ to the request to be picked up by the customer. It can be booked at the desired time of travel, through an app or by phone.

The service would run between 06:30 and 21:30, seven days-a-week.  The service will use a mix of existing bus stops and approved stops which could be identified by nearest junction, address or business.  It is expected the average wait time for a vehicle would be 10 minutes.

The cost of the fare would be more than a standard London bus, and would be payable at the time of booking.  Oyster cards would not be accepted during the trial, although Freedom passes would.
