The war memorial at Benhilton church has been listed by Historic England at grade II as part of their WW1 Commemoration project. The church has been a grade II listed building for some time. This listing was supported by Sutton Council.
The War Memorial takes the form of a gabled stone cross set on a plinth. It commemorates those local servicemen who died in the First World War. Overall, it is considered that the memorial has special architectural and historical interest and meets the criteria for listing.
The memorial is considered to provide an eloquent witness to the tragic impact of world events on the local community, and the sacrifices it made in the First World War; it is an imposing and dignified gabled stone cross war memorial; and has additional value in conjunction with the Grade II*-listed All Saints Church.
