Ranfurly Road pavement parking plans

Residents will know that we have been trying for some time to find a solution to the parking and access difficulties in Ranfurly Road.  The issues was raised last year at Sutton Local Committee as part of the Committee’s consultation on local parking difficulties.   Due to the narrowness of the road, there have been occasions where parked vehicles have suffered damage from passing traffic.  In addition, there have been representations from the emergency services where access has been severely obstructed by parked vehicles. Refuse vehicles have also experienced access difficulties.

Council officers have carried out site investigations and now drawn up proposals for partial footway parking to improve the access along the road.  Pavement parking in Sutton is not permissible without an approved scheme with signs.  In addition it is usually not permitted if it involves the loss of grass verges.

The proposal includes:

  • Provision of partial footway parking on the NE side of the road to create adequate carriageway clearance for emergency/refuse vehicles
  • Maintain space for approximately 17 vehicles with no noticeable loss of parking in the road, but equally no gain in spaces.
  • The NW side of the road would be unaffected
  • The affected grass verge will require strengthening/replacing to create a hard standing for the vehicles

This scheme will cost £40,000 to implement.  The proposal is going to Sutton Local Committee on Tues 6 September at 7pm at Sutton Grammar School, Manor Lane.  If the committee agrees to fund the scheme, there will be consultation with residents about the details.
