TfL consults on Sutton Tram

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 2 November, 2018

Transport for London are asking for your views on their proposal to bring the tram to Sutton – the Sutton Link project.

The Sutton Link is a proposed major new transport service for Sutton and Merton. TfL are consulting on three potential routes from Sutton town centre to Wimbledon, South Wimbledon or Colliers Wood.

They are also be asking for views on two types of transport – tram or Bus Rapid Transit (similar to a tram but running on road rather than rails).

The project aims to:

  • Make it quicker to travel between Sutton and Merton and improve links to central London
  • Improve access to jobs and services from less connected parts of both boroughs
  • Support the delivery of new homes in both boroughs

There will be consultation events around the town centre as follows:

  1. St Nicholas Centre, Saturday, 10 Nov, 11:00 – 17:00
  2. Sutton Central Library, Thursday, 15 Nov, 14:00 – 20:00
  3. Sutton Life Centre, Tuesday, 20 Nov, 13:00 – 19:00
  4. The Salvation Army, Thursday, 22 Nov, 14:00 – 20:00

There will be a further consultation event at The Salvation Army on Thursday 13 Dec, 16:30 – 18:30, immediately prior to the Sutton Local Committee, which starts at 7pm.

TfL will also be distributing a postcard to properties within 250m of each of the three route options, to advise them of the consultation.

The consultation runs until 6 January 2019.   Please make sure you respond to the consultation to let them know what you think of the proposals and to express a preference between the options.
