Libraries, heritage house, outdoor gyms and children’s playgrounds begin to re-open

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 2 July, 2020

As the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) restrictions lift, the Council is re-opening services as soon as they are able to, with the safety of staff and the public as the top priority at all times.

As these venues and facilities reopen, there will be changes made to the opening hours, set up and service in order to keep everybody safe. Please follow the guidance set out on the Council’s webpages and on site and follow the instructions of staff at all times.

Libraries

Sutton Central Library will begin offering a ‘select and collect’ service and limited IT facilities from 6 July.  There will be reduced opening hours and a number of changes, including a one-way queuing system and social distancing. Reopening for the Sutton Life Centre will be reviewed constantly in line with how we are able to manage services and ensure staff and customers can remain protected and safe.  Please check the Council web site for other libraries.

Please follow the Library social media channels and sign up for Sutton’s Cultural Services email newsletter for further updates on the service, and online events and content, such as Rhymetimes, Digital Information Centre and new podcast episodes.

Heritage houses

Whitehall Historic House and Honeywood Museum will be open for pre booked visits from Thursday 23 July 2020, between 10am and 4pm

Outdoor gyms

The Council is reopening outdoor gyms in our parks from 4 July.  There will be special guidance on how to use the equipment safely and ensure social distancing on display in parks.

Please note that only the Council’s outdoor gyms are reopening at this stage. Indoor gyms in our leisure centres remain closed for now.

Children’s playgrounds

The Council is reopening our children’s playgrounds in our parks from 4 July.   There will be special guidance on how to use the equipment safely and ensure social distancing on display in parks.

Please check the Council’s webpage regularly for the latest information on which parks will have public toilets available.

Leisure centres

The leisure centres (Cheam, David Weir, Phoenix and Westcroft) remain closed at the moment. They will be reopened safely as soon as possible.
