We had an interesting meeting of the Sutton Local committee last week in a new venue – Sutton United football club. With the new ward boundaries, Collingwood Rec is now in Sutton North ward and it was really good to see our own Cllr Sam Cumber in the Chair. He did a very good job!

Sutton United gave us an inspiring presentation on all the good work they are doing in the community. They are very much a family focussed community football club and are increasingly getting involved in local projects. They have men’s, boys, girls and disabled teams and are creating great opportunities for our young people.

We also heard about the latest update on the regeneration of Sutton Town Centre and the exciting plans to increase footfall and employment opportunities in the High St so that we ensure it is a great place to shop, work and enjoy ourselves.

There was an interesting presentation on the new Family Hubs being set up (initially in Sutton Library) to provide high-quality, joined-up, whole-family support services for families and children. We all know how important the first 1000 days of a child’s life are for their future development and we want families to be able to get good support as early as possible.
