May 2023 update

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 9 June, 2023

Another month has passed and here is an update on some of the things your Sutton North Lib Dem councillors have been doing in the past month:

  • Attended the Tamil and Buddhist New Year celebrations at Sutton Civic Centre.
  • Fixed faulty lighting in Rosehill Park West.
  • Attended various Coronation street parties in the ward
  • Helped Friends of Sutton Green with their litter pick.
  • Knocked on doors of residents to keep in touch and help with various local issues.

The Conservative Government plans to downgrade St Helier Hospital, cutting its A&E and maternity services and moving them to a new hospital on the Surrey border.. However, delay after delay has left St Helier Hospital to deteriorate to a dangerous condition while its future hangs in the balance.

The Government recommitted to its plan to downgrade St Helier Hospital and announced a further delay to building a new hospital in the borough – as design work for a standardised, modular build is set to hold up the start of works yet again. This is not good enough for Sutton residents. St Helier needs urgent investment now.

Sutton Council continues to oppose the Mayor of London’s plans to extend the ULEZ charge to Sutton during a cost of living crisis when families are struggling to pay their bills. Sign the petition so we can show the Mayor the strength of feeling against this unfair charge
