Sutton Local Committee June 2023 roundup

by Sam, Ruth and Chris on 25 June, 2023

There were lots of interesting discussions at the latest Sutton Local committee meeting held on 22nd June at Sutton United Football Club.

The local police team talked to us about their efforts to reduce robberies and car theft and answered questions from the audience. It was good to hear there are no vacancies in our local ward teams though the Town Centre team is still not up to full strength.

The Head of the Sutton United Football Foundation told us about the club’s plans for the future and the need for a new 3G pitch in the borough. They are doing a lot of work in the community with a primary schools literacy project and also run disability football, walking football, girls and women’s teams.

The Sutton Refugee and Migrant Network gave a thoughtful presentation about the work they do with people living in the borough who have had to flee persecution and hardship and how they help them with language skills and employment opportunities.
We also heard from the Council about the Family Hubs that have been set up in the borough to support families. There is more information at https://www.suttonhealthandcare.nhs.uk/sutton-family-hubs.

There are lots of events being planned for the summer –

– 22nd July Taste of the Caribbean Festival in Rosehill Park West
